Vermilion Local board approves February financial report, Meta Solutions agreement and consent agenda

The Vermilion Local School District Board of Education on March 11 approved its February financial report, authorized participation in the Ohio School Council cooperative advertising and bus-chassis bidding program, and authorized an agreement with Meta Solutions for 2024–25 fiscal and EMIS support and library services. Each motion passed by recorded unanimous vote, 3–0.

The treasurer reported year-to-date general-fund receipts of $16,000,000 through February, down from $16.9 million at the same point last year, and all-funds revenue of $17.9 million. Expenditures through February were $17.7 million (general fund) and $20.9 million (all funds). Cash on hand in the general fund was listed at $15.6 million. The treasurer said a delayed tax advance from Erie County explained part of the year-to-date shortfall and that the district received that advance after the February report, so it will appear in March’s figures.

On the investment side, the district reported $399,000 in interest income through February versus $175,000 for the same period last year.

The board accepted multiple donations earmarked for student programs and supports, including $2,000 from Edward and Barbara Cobol for the Coach Cobol scholarship; several FFA sponsorships (amounts listed in the financial attachment); $4,500 from Grace Community Kitchen to assist with negative lunch balances and graduation fees; and a $200 anonymous donation to help with negative lunch balances.

The board also authorized an agreement with Meta Solutions for the 2024–25 school year for fiscal and EMIS support related to a state software redesign and PowerSchool integration (listed in the agenda as $33,574.50) and for IEP Anywhere Plus and InfoOhio library services (listed as $8,173.94). The board approved participation in the Ohio School Council cooperative advertising and the district’s receipt of bids for school bus chassis and bodies.

All financial and consent-agenda items were bundled in a single consent motion and adopted by a single roll-call vote, recorded by the clerk as 3–0 in favor. The board directed that items removed from the consent agenda would be considered separately if any member requested that step; no items were removed at this meeting.

The board noted upcoming meetings at Vermilion High School Commons and will hold a special work session March 18 and regular meetings April 15, May 13 and June 10.
