Warrensville Heights City Board of Education — Superintendent Jolly used his report to preview community events and facilities updates and to frame recent district improvements.
Jolly said the annual alumni weekend will begin Friday at the high school with an "old school vs. new school" game, campus tours led by students, vendors and an alumni open-mic and performances. He named alumni performers and volunteers and said last year's event was standing-room only. The superintendent also said he will serve as grand marshal for the Memorial Day parade on May 27 and described plans for floats and team participation.
On facilities, Jolly reported that the John Dewey school building has been demolished and the site will be seeded as a grass field. The district plans to install barriers to prevent parking on the newly seeded grass and expects youth football to use the field; he noted parking logistics will need attention. He also said Westwood property discussions with the city are advanced (described as "a done deal" in his remarks) and that Eastwood property is under ongoing conversations. He told the board he will bring more details back to a future meeting.
Jolly framed his remarks with a review of district progress since 2015 — improved facilities, enrollment recovery and professional staffing — and reiterated the district's emphasis on expectations for students, including a district dress code intended to support an environment focused on learning.
Why it matters: The John Dewey field plan and the Eastwood/Westwood property conversations affect neighborhood recreational access and future property use; the superintendent said the district will coordinate with the mayor's office and city partners on planning and community impacts.
