At its reorganization meeting the Bangor School Board completed officer elections and approved a package of district actions including pay adjustments, vehicle purchases and personnel changes.
Elections and appointments
Julie Myers was approved by unanimous ballot as board president; Shelley Pisky was approved as vice president; Joni Wilcox as treasurer; and Tina Matheson as clerk. The board also named Julie Myers as the district representative to the CISA annual meeting on June 5 (motion carried).
Compensation and personnel
The board approved a 2024–25 teacher compensation package that applies step movement and increases each cell on the salary schedule by $1,100, setting the new starting teacher salary at $42,100. Administrators also approved a $0.75 hourly increase for most hourly positions for 2024–25 and pay adjustments for confidential and administrative staff (technology coordinator, building and grounds coordinator, bookkeeper, central office administration, assistant school psychologist, principals, and district administrator).
Vehicles and operations
The board approved purchase of a 2025 International school bus from Ascendance Truck Center for $129,831.50 (including license, registration and a camera system) and purchase of a 2024 Chrysler Pacifica from Sleepy Hollow for $41,963.98 (including license/registration and two extra key fobs). The board also authorized spending up to $160,000 to buy up to two additional buses pending bid results and final budget numbers.
Other actions
The board approved an overnight field trip for 10 FCCLA students to attend the FCCLA National Conference in Seattle and approved personnel actions including acceptance of the resignation of Michelle Evanston (head cook) and hires for a night custodian (Patty Knudson, partial contract) and a 4K teacher (Caitlin Schmitz) for 2024–25.
Votes and motion attribution
Where recorded in the transcript, motions were credited by name (for example, motions and seconds were often recorded as "motion made by Joanie, seconded by Kelly"); all motions listed above were carried by voice vote during the meeting. The meeting record does not include a roll‑call vote tally for each motion; when tallies were not specified the report lists outcomes as approved by the board at the meeting.
Next steps
For items that require further action — notably any referendum decision — board staff will return with detailed resolutions, legal wording from bond counsel, and additional modeling.
