Board members spent a substantial portion of the meeting reviewing the district’s evaluation platform and planning a board retreat to discuss board norms and priorities.
The chair explained that members can complete the 2025–26 board evaluation on the district’s platform, create a PDF snapshot of the current responses for retreat use, and re-rate themselves in June if desired. Members asked about dashboard views, the color-coding indicating progress, and the implications of finalizing evaluations: once the chair finalizes the document it becomes the baseline and cannot be edited by others. The group agreed to set an internal deadline to complete evaluations in order to schedule a retreat and discussed whether to hold an evening session or a Saturday workshop.
Board members proposed and discussed several dates, with the primary options identified as Sept. 16 and 17 and Sept. 25; Monday, Sept. 22 was listed as a final-resort backup. Members weighed scheduling conflicts (conventions, holidays, personal obligations) and formats (evening with dinner vs. daytime Saturday session) and asked the chair to check facilitator availability and place calendar holds. The chair said she would contact the facilitator and follow up with confirmed dates.
What’s next: Board members will complete evaluation inputs by the agreed internal deadline, the chair will secure facilitator holds and finalize retreat logistics, and the board will reconvene on the confirmed retreat date to use the PDF snapshot as the working baseline for governance discussions.
