The Seaford Union Free School District board used its meeting to recognize the impending retirement of Manor School principal Deborah Emmerich, praising her leadership, hiring record and pandemic response.
Dr. Adele Bocora, superintendent of schools, opened the remarks, saying the board would take action that night to approve Emmerich’s retirement and detailing Emmerich’s tenure. "Ms. Emmerich’s strongest talents is her ability to hire and nurture exceptional educators," Bocora said, noting Emmerich joined the district in 2006, served in assistant-principal roles and became Manor’s principal in 2010. Bocora credited Emmerich with leading contact tracing in coordination with district nurse Lorraine Burke and serving on the schools’ reopening task force during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Board members and parents offered personal tributes. Patricia, a board member, said Emmerich had created a "warm and loving environment" at Manor that helped children feel safe. Harper, another board member, said they had "heard nothing but the best" about Emmerich and wished her luck in retirement. Bocora asked anyone in the audience who had been hired by Emmerich to stand in recognition of her work.
Remarks highlighted Emmerich’s focus on social-emotional learning, building collaborative teacher teams and sustaining school spirit. A prepared statement from Miss Priessy, read aloud by a board member, thanked Emmerich for her dedication and said students would miss her. Colleagues noted the emotional send-off among faculty and staff and expressed appreciation for Emmerich’s role in maintaining in-person instruction during the pandemic by implementing safety protocols.
The board’s public record at this meeting showed the recognition and tributes; no separate personnel details such as the effective retirement date or post-retirement plans were provided in the record.
The meeting continued with routine business and adjourned after brief additional comments and a motion to adjourn.
