A committee member told the board they wanted the district to "accelerate those conversations" about gun-detection technology and asked staff to bring vendor options, timelines and budget estimates to a future meeting so the board can consider next steps.
John, the superintendent, said staff had already begun contacting vendors and exploring options and suggested starting with the high school lobby and the secure-vestibule project so work could be bundled. He cautioned that such systems "get very expensive" and noted the district would assess possible funding sources and grant opportunities before moving ahead.
Board members discussed examples from neighboring districts and grants that had supported installations elsewhere, and staff agreed to gather vendor demonstrations, cost estimates and any relevant grant or building-aid eligibility and return to the board with a recommended timeline. No procurement decision was made at the meeting.
The board asked for a timeline on the research and for staff to consult with districts that have implemented similar systems; staff reported one or two vendor contacts were already in progress and that a formal presentation would be scheduled when the research is complete.
