Board approves hires, supplemental contracts and accepts $19,614 donation for athletics

The Northwest Local school board approved a slate of personnel actions and consent items at its Oct. 28 meeting, including multiple staff hires, classified substitutes and supplemental contracts for the 2024–25 school year.

Staff member presented the recommendations, including a bus driver hire effective Oct. 1, 2024; a bus aide effective Oct. 9, 2024; a Title I tutor at Stinson effective Oct. 10, 2024; and an assistant to the treasurer effective Nov. 4, 2024. The staff member also asked the board to approve a list of supplemental-contract awards "contingent upon criminal record check, certification, and number of student nominees."

Chair moved the hires and consent items; motions were seconded and a roll-call vote was taken. Committee member conducted the roll call; several board members responded "Yes," and the consent items were approved.

During discussion the staff member corrected a date and restated the details of a recent donation: the corrected end date is Dec. 31, 2030, and a donation in the amount of $19,614.10 will go to the athletic department. Board members discussed that part of the funds went to boosters and that approximately $2,000 remained after payments for the RAP/state program. Uses mentioned included a stadium wrap and basketball-related expenses.

The board also placed several new policy drafts, including a proposed naming-rights policy, on the agenda for review and directed members to submit suggestions ahead of the November meeting. The meeting proceeded to additional agenda items after the roll-call approvals.
