The Perrydale SD 21 Board of Directors received a facilities update on March 25 after the district’s 20-year sign was knocked down in recent high winds and staff outlined near-term repair and maintenance priorities.
Superintendent (Superintendent) told the board, “our sign that we've had for about 20 years fell down over the weekend when we had a lot of, wind, high winds,” and said the district will solicit several companies to provide options for replacement, including alternate placements or mounting options. The superintendent and staff also reported that playground loose fill will be replenished and repaired, with contractor work hoped for in June so surfacing will be dry and usable by summer.
Board members reviewed drainage concerns around the campus, noting groundwater-saturated spots near the office and the modulars while acknowledging the basement had fewer water problems after the building was connected to an improved drain. The superintendent said staff will further inspect problem areas and consult facilities lead Troy about available remedies and any needed piping or grading.
The board also discussed capital priorities: replacing worn high-school carpet, budgeting for asphalt repairs between maintenance and other campus lots this summer, and replacing an aging mini bus (estimates for used buses ranged during the discussion and new buses were acknowledged as significantly more expensive). No formal votes were taken on facilities items during the discussion; board members identified the asphalt and bus replacement as items to include in the coming budget cycle.
Next steps: staff will solicit bids/options for a new sign, schedule playground fill work for June, and prepare cost estimates for bus replacement and asphalt repairs for consideration in the district budget.
