Sheridan board adds April 19 instructional day, shifts June meeting to June 12

The Sheridan School District 48J board voted to amend the 2023–24 calendar to add April 19 as a school day for high school students and later approved moving the June board meeting from June 19 to June 12.

“The amendment is to add April 19 as a school day for the high school,” the chair said when the calendar change was presented to the board; the motion was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.

District staff explained the April 19 change is intended to provide added instructional time for sophomores and juniors and that the day will be a six‑hour schedule with slightly shortened periods so staff still total a 40‑hour workweek.

On the board calendar, staff noted June 19 falls on a holiday and recommended moving the meeting to June 12; the board approved the amended calendar by motion and unanimous voice vote.

Board members also discussed scheduling three potential budget‑committee meetings in April and May to prepare the budget in time for the moved June meeting.

Both votes were handled as routine business during the meeting; no roll‑call tallies beyond unanimous 'Aye' voice votes were entered in the record.
