At its Nov. 7 meeting the Blackhawk School District Board of Directors approved a set of finance consent items that included accepting a $15,000 grant from the Grable Foundation and consolidating separate health, dental and vision funds back into the general fund.
Finance committee leadership summarized consent agenda items 8.1–8.8, saying the grant will be accepted and the separate benefit funds — which were being used to pay items that could be handled through the general fund — will be returned to general‑fund accounting. “These are funds that aren't really necessary; they are funded by the general fund, and then we're just returning them into the general fund,” the finance presenter said.
The board also approved routine monthly bill payments, the financial report for October, and authorizations to execute assessment settlements with Danzer Veneer and Cambridge Village Associates. A motion to approve the consent items passed by voice vote.
Board members said staff will provide additional explanation to any public requesters about how monthly reporting will show those balances. When a member of the public asked whether previously separate balances would still be visible in board paperwork, administrators said the balances will still be reported as individual balances on paperwork and that staff would follow up with the commenter.
No dollar totals beyond the $15,000 grant were specified in the public presentation; the finance presenter described the funds consolidation as a bookkeeping simplification rather than a programmatic change.
