The RSU 73 school board voted to maintain current substitute-pay rates through June 30, 2025, and approved a slate of hiring motions following an executive session on a personal matter.
At the new-business portion of the meeting the chair asked for a motion "for the school board to keep the substitute paid the same as it currently is through 06/30/2025." The motion was moved and carried by roll call.
Later the board entered executive session under 1 MRSA to discuss a personal matter; the chair announced the board went into executive session and later announced it was out of executive session with times noted on the public record. After returning to open session the chair entertained hiring motions. By voice or show of hands the board approved hiring Haddie Dutton as a social studies teacher, Paula Pratt for a special-education position, and Emma Hickson as a first-grade teacher. The board also noted co-curricular appointments, retirements and resignations.
Why it matters: the substitute-pay decision preserves current pay rates for substitutes through June 2025 and the personnel approvals fill classroom positions the district identified as open. The executive session was recorded only as "a personal matter" in the public minutes; no substantive personnel details were disclosed during open session.
The board adjourned after confirming no other business.
