Ascension Saint Alexius Hospital opened a Dispensary of Hope pharmacy on its campus to coordinate donated medications and provide access for low-income and uninsured residents, a hospital representative said on the Hoffman Estates Citizen program.
"This is, operated by Ascension, coordinates with pharmaceutical manufacturers to distribute donated medications to those in need," the hospital representative said. The program will work with the Dispensary of Hope network across Ascension Illinois to provide free medications locally.
Mayor Bill McLeod and other presenters praised the hospital's work to "provide quality health care to all" and presented ceremonial keys to the village in recognition of the hospital's role in the community.
The program representative and the mayor framed the initiative as part of the hospital's mission to serve vulnerable residents; details on eligibility criteria and the list of medications to be stocked were not specified in the broadcast segment.
