The Clark Public Schools Board of Education voted Wednesday to approve a tentative budget for the 2425 school year and authorized submission of that budget to the Union County executive superintendent for review and advertisement.
Board members moved to approve the tentative budget after a presentation by district finance staff. The presenter said the district’s general fund expenditures for 2425 are $4,043,745,000, anticipated revenue $7,600,000, and a tax levy of $36,000,000; the presenter gave a total budget figure of $47,784,002.75. "If they approve it, we'll be able to advertise the budget and also do our public budget presentation in May," the presenter said.
Mister Bridal moved the motion to approve the tentative budget, Mister Smorel seconded, and a roll call vote followed. The board president declared the motion carried after members voted in the affirmative.
The board also approved a slate of routine consent items during the meeting, including personnel items 1–22; curriculum items 23–24; governance items 25–30; and finance items 31–43. Several abstentions were recorded during those votes: Miss Guerrero abstained on multiple personnel items (listed in the minutes as items 1,4,6,7,8,9,11,12,14,16,19,20 and 21) and she also recorded abstentions on certain governance and finance items (governance items 27 and 29; finance items 33 and 36). The board chair declared each motion carried after roll calls.
The budget approval is procedural: the next step is submission to the Union County executive superintendent for approval, at which point the district may publish the budget and hold its public budget presentation in May.
