Roanoke City Council’s highlights package recorded a series of recognitions and staff updates during the Dec. 2 sessions.
Sheriff Antonio Hash presented an update recognizing his staff’s accreditations from the Department of Corrections, the American Correctional Association and the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission, the summary said. Later in the afternoon, Brian Wells, general manager of Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center, was recognized for earning the GM of the Year award from the American Hotel and Lodging Association.
Interim city manager Dr. Lydia Pettis Patton told council the Waseenia Skatepark public design meeting on Nov. 20 was well attended and produced no major requests for the design team; she said the firm is finalizing the stormwater plan before construction can begin next year. Dr. Pettis Patton also announced a historical marker unveiling for Edward Dudley, described in the highlights as the first African American to serve as a U.S. ambassador, scheduled for Dec. 12.
Corbin’s summary noted council approved several nominees to boards and commissions and reminded viewers that information about vacancies is available on the city’s website. The highlights package also said one resident signed up to speak during public comment in the session.
