City Parks & Recreation and planning staff reported several parks and library initiatives intended to expand recreational offerings and neighborhood amenities.
Speaker 4 outlined trail work at Silly Mountain, new trail markers and signage, invasive-plant management along trails, and improvements at Prospector Park. The speaker said grant funding paid for new shade structures over two playgrounds and that the city will open 10 new pickleball courts in May because the existing four courts are over capacity: "We are bursting at the seams for our 4 pickleball courts that are there now, and so we are very excited to open those up in May," Speaker 4 said.
Speaker 4 also noted recent park openings, including Painted Sky Park, and listed awards: Painted Sky Park was recognized by the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association as an outstanding facility for a city its size; a little league ball field received a Fields of Excellence award; and parks superintendent Dave Butler was named parks professional of the year by the Arizona State Parks Association.
On libraries and community amenities, Speaker 6 said master planners are developing a 22-acre Superstition Vistas parcel that will include the city’s first branch library adjacent to a police substation and near an urban fishing lake and ball fields.
Officials said many park amenities south of town are being provided by developers as part of new residential projects. No formal council actions or funding votes were recorded during this presentation.
