With the city currently without a designated code-enforcement officer, the Scottsdale Board of Works temporarily appointed building commissioner Bobby Wilson as safety officer so he can sign notices related to an identified unsafe property.
Speaker 6 told the board the police department was fielding complaints about garbage and other nuisances at the property and that an interim appointment would allow the city to proceed with notices and prepare for a May 8 hearing on the matter. The board moved, seconded and approved the temporary designation; board members noted the assignment is short-term and that it will not change Mr. Wilson’s pay.
Why it matters: The temporary appointment restores the city’s ability to take administrative enforcement steps (issuing notices) while the code-enforcement vacancy persists and sets a near-term hearing to address the property’s condition.
The board intends for the appointment to be temporary; staff said Mr. Wilson has prior experience in the role and will handle the immediate enforcement steps until a permanent code-enforcement officer is appointed.
