The Morrow County Board of Commissioners convened May 6 and moved through routine business, approving minutes, paying bills, authorizing an engineer project to be advertised, and approving several appropriations and proclamations.
The board approved the minutes of the May 1 meeting and a motion to table and pay bills numbered 1 through 141. Commissioners approved a transfer of funds for the general farm jail and a motion to journalize the county treasurer’s cash sheet as of April 30, 2024.
On public‑works business the board authorized staff to advertise notice to bidders for the county engineer’s project MRWCR‑25, described in the meeting as an Allen Creek landslide repair. A commissioner asked staff to clarify the site location; staff identified the site as a bridge in Peru Township on a road that approaches the Samoquin plant.
The board read and approved several proclamations by voice/roll‑call vote: May 2024 was proclaimed Foster Care Recognition and Recruitment Month (meeting text said 23 foster and kinship families currently serve 33 children locally and that up to three young adults age out of care per year), and National Correctional Officers and Employees Week was recognized for May 2024.
After a recess and return to session, commissioners approved appropriations including certified capital funds to cover gravel delivered for a community‑service dog‑shelter project and an appropriation to refund a hospital $633.09 for property‑liability insurance paid for 245 Veil Avenue. All routine motions reported in the meeting were moved, seconded and approved by roll call with three affirmative votes recorded where roll calls were taken.
The meeting concluded with brief closing remarks and adjournment.
