Morrow County commissioners proclaimed a week in May 2024 as Emergency Medical Services Week during their May 20 meeting, citing the lifesaving role of emergency medical services and encouraging community observance.
Speaker 3 read the proclamation at length, which recognized EMS personnel — including EMTs, paramedics, dispatchers, firefighters and pre-hospital nurses — for providing 24-hour lifesaving care and engaging in continuing training. "And whereas emergency medical services is a vital public service," Speaker 3 read during the proclamation.
Following the proclamation, a participant in the meeting asked whether the county’s EMS director is still Jeff Sparks. "He was still in charge pretty much," the participant (Speaker 5) said when queried; speakers noted they would look up contact information for the director. No formal personnel action, appointment or vote regarding EMS leadership was recorded during the session.
Speakers also used the public-comments portion of the meeting to note a $1,000 sponsorship for a community Chili Cook Off, donations to support park equipment and progress on a storybook trail.
What’s next: The proclamation was signed by the commission and recorded in the meeting minutes. Questions about EMS leadership were raised informally and no follow-up personnel action was recorded during this session.
