Library staff told the advisory committee on Feb. 25 that they plan to submit the 2025 Texas Public Library annual report to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) and will seek City Council approval on March 16 before finalizing local signatures.
Staff explained that accreditation confirms the library meets minimum criteria established in the Texas Administrative Code — quantitative measures such as per-capita expenditures and collection size as well as basic contact and service requirements. The manager said maintaining accreditation gives the library access to the statewide interlibrary loan system and makes the library eligible for additional grants and funding programs.
Staff said the annual report covers the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1, 2024 and ending Sept. 30, 2025 (the transcript contains a date-range transcription error that listed an end year of 2020; the dates above correct that inconsistency based on the report described). Committee members asked about the timeline for signatures; staff said that if council approves the report at its March 16 meeting, staff will return to obtain the committee's signature at a convenient meeting.
No formal committee vote was recorded in the transcript; staff said the next procedural step is City Council consideration. The committee did not take a recorded final action on the report during the Feb. 25 meeting.
