At the special called meeting the Sumner County Library Board moved to group and approve the remaining FY2026–27 library budgets and voted unanimously to send them to the county budget process.
The board debated whether directors should present budgets directly to county budget hearings so specific operational questions can be answered. One board member said returning board involvement to the budget presentation process is a protective measure that allows the governing body to ask operational questions directly of directors.
Members also discussed the libraries’ catalog/software contract. Several members noted Atrium as a lower‑cost alternative to the current TLC contract; board members estimated switching could save about $20,000 annually but cautioned that terminating the current contract early could incur a fee of roughly $12,000 and that the existing contract term likely runs through about June 30. A cataloger who had been skeptical described strong satisfaction with Atrium’s cataloging features after the migration.
Because the treasurer was absent, the board approved grouping and advancing the budgets with the understanding that directors will present details at the March budget hearings. The board scheduled its next review before the county hearings so directors can present and answer questions.
The grouped budgets vote and the decision to involve directors directly aim to streamline the county review process while preserving board oversight of library operations.
