Chair Rochelle Garza moved to appoint Amina Anderson and Tristan Leibitt to serve on the West Virginia state advisory committee and the motion was seconded. The commission held a roll-call vote and six commissioners voted in favor while two commissioners abstained; the motion passed and the staff director or designee was authorized to execute appointment paperwork.
Chair Garza emphasized the role of state advisory committees in amplifying community voices and advancing civil-rights work. “As I've said many, many times before, our advisory committees are instrumental in amplifying the voices of communities across the country and ensuring that the civil rights remain central to policy discussion,” Garza said.
Acting Staff Director Merrick Xavier Breyer noted that the written staff director’s report covered the month’s business and offered to answer questions; commissioners had none. The commission then adjourned the business meeting at 10:35 a.m. Eastern time.
The appointees will serve in an uncompensated capacity; the staff director was authorized to complete the necessary appointment paperwork.
