Commissioner reports progress on county wastewater advisory committee and Duck River partnership work

Commissioner Allen Gill updated the Planning Commission on the county's wastewater advisory committee work.

Gill said the County Commission appointed a seven‑member wastewater advisory committee and that he was selected chairman. The committee has met monthly, developed bylaws, and invited technical speakers including an engineer from the regional consolidated utility district and a state soil scientist. Gill said the committee will continue to solicit technical input and examine alternate sites, costs, and the potential impacts on homeowners and development patterns.

Gill also said he is chairing a Duck River watershed subcommittee charged with taking a previously produced midterm report and developing actionable engineering and cost estimates for recommendations. Items under review include options such as raising Normandy Dam and evaluating pipeline alternatives for inter‑basin transfers; Gill said he had secured utility managers and legislative members for his subcommittee.

Gill said the committee will continue to meet monthly until it has deliverables and will provide reports back to the Planning Commission.
