At the start of the March 18 board meeting, the Nordonia Hills Board of Education invited Northfield Elementary students to present highlights of 'One School, One Book,' an annual reading initiative now in its eighth year. Multiple students told the board they enjoy chapter trivia, reading with family members and the program’s prizes.
Speaker 4, who introduced the students, said the program runs the month leading up to spring break and emphasized community ties: sponsors contribute both money and in‑person scavenger‑hunt activities at local businesses. The presenter credited teacher Kelly Miletti as the program chair for all eight years and noted the district posts program resources on a Northfield Elementary website and uses prerecorded staff readers for families who cannot read nightly.
Board members and parents praised the program. One parent said their child has participated for five years and thanked staff for continuity through the pandemic. The presenter said every child receives a prize on the final day and that teachers and staff are committed to continuing the program.
The presentation concluded with applause for the students; the board moved on to district business after thanking the students and staff.
