At its March 6 meeting the City of Rexburg council approved multiple capital projects and related budget adjustments:
- Romance Theatre front doors: Staff reported a contractor bid of $36,000 for replacement of the theatre’s main doors; the city has an $8,000 Idaho Humanities Council grant that will offset a portion of costs. The council approved the budget adjustment to proceed; State Historical Society review will be required.
- Traffic signal design at 7th South & Center Street: The council approved a contract with Horrocks for design work on a new traffic signal at the intersection near the ball diamonds. The project is funded primarily by an LTAC grant; council noted the site’s history (a pedestrian fatality) and supported a full signal rather than a simpler pedestrian hawk light.
- Concrete water reservoir rehabilitation: Public works recommended awarding the reservoir rehabilitation contract to DN Tanks. The base bid was $773,200; staff also recommended adding two bid alternates (~$38,300 and $37,300) for related architectural coating and repairs. Staff described the work as necessary to address spalling and deterioration on two concrete reservoirs (one tank roughly 30 years old, the other older); splitting the project into two mobilizations would add roughly $20,000 and 5 percent. Council approved the award and a budget adjustment to complete both tanks in a single contract.
Council discussed technical details including protecting post‑tension steel in the tanks during chipping and the planned architectural coating for finished appearance. Staff said timing will depend on weather and contractor availability.
