Rexburg City Council on May 15 approved several zoning actions and set a public hearing to declare intent to sell a parcel of city-owned property at Rotary Park.
Planning staff described a request to rezone two lots at approximately 15 and 19 Sawtell Avenue (Rexburg West subdivision) from mixed use to Community Business Center (CBC). Planning and zoning unanimously recommended approval; a council member moved to approve the rezone and the council voted 'Aye.' The mayor noted the item will be considered a first reading and would be designated as ordinance 13-15 if later adopted.
The council also considered two items on third reading. Ordinance 13-13 rezones 1040 West Main Street from mixed use to Community Business Center; council moved to consider it for third reading and approved it with no recorded opposition. Ordinance 13-14 rezones multiple parcels near 52 North 3rd West from Low Density Residential 2 and mixed use to High Density Residential 1; the council approved third reading on that ordinance as well.
On a separate land-use action, staff presented a proposed lot split at Rotary Park (Rodney Drive) and asked the council to set a public hearing to declare intent to sell the parcel. The council set the public hearing for June 5, 2024; staff confirmed an easement will preserve south-side access to the junior high and said trail paving may be coordinated with other nearby projects so buyers will see established access improvements.
