Commission approves two new commissioner applicants and adopts 2026 meeting calendar

The commission voted to accept two applicants for appointment to the Parks and Recreation Commission and approved the proposed meeting schedule for 2026.

Commissioners discussed the two applicants, including Amber (application materials and resume provided to commissioners) and Nolan Hughes. After discussion, a motion to accept Amber's application was made and seconded; the commission voted in favor. A subsequent motion to accept Nolan Hughes was made, seconded and also approved. Staff said the commission will forward its approvals to the city clerk and city manager for board-level processing per commission bylaws.

Separately, commissioners reviewed the 2026 meeting schedule (generally second Wednesdays), discussed whether alternate days would better accommodate members or department operations, and were advised by staff that Fridays and some other weekdays are difficult because of department schedules. A motion to accept the proposed schedule was made, seconded and approved.

The commission discussed term expirations and vacancies: two current terms are expected to be up in 2026 (Ben France and Mike Bernardo), and commissioners were reminded that applicants must be forwarded to the city clerk for final processing.

No contested ballots or formal roll-call tallies were read into the record for these motions; the chair announced each motion as approved following verbal aye/oppose responses.
