A legislator (Speaker 1) told a committee during a hearing that conservation districts play a vital role connecting local ideas to state and federal resources and urged continued funding.
"And what they what they do that's important is basically they're a communications function between between regions, region conservation, districts and resources greater than, we should say, greater than themselves," the legislator said, describing the districts as a conduit to agriculture programs and federal resources such as the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). The witness added: "And so I really hope that you continue funding resource conservation districts, and other similar things."
The testimony, which the committee accepted for the record, framed conservation districts as organizational structures that help move ideas "top to bottom" and bring state and federal assistance to regional and local conservation efforts. The testifier said they had been involved with conservation districts "for a long time, since way before I was a legislator," and emphasized the districts' communication role in linking resources and environmental needs across regions.
Committee staff (Speaker 2) asked the testifier to submit the written testimony after the hearing; the witness agreed. No motions or votes were recorded during the exchange.
The hearing closed with brief procedural remarks and a reminder that individuals who ran out of time could submit written testimony for the record.
