The Senate took final action on several bills and confirmed gubernatorial appointments during its Feb. 24 floor session.
Consent-calendar items: The clerk read the titles of bills on the consent calendar including Senate Bill 85 (military protection orders) and Senate Bill 25 (land survey monumentation). The Majority Leader moved for passage of the consent calendar; the chamber recorded 31 ayes, 0 nos, 3 excused and 1 vacant and the consent-calendar bills were passed.
Senate Bill 5: The clerk read SB5 (state-court remedies for violations of federal constitutional rights occurring during immigration enforcement; makes an appropriation). Senator Weisman, the prime sponsor, moved for adoption on third reading. After an attempted reconsideration and withdrawal, the bill passed on final passage with a roll-call tally recorded as 20 ayes, 11 noes, 0 absent, 3 excused and 1 vacant. "I move for the adoption of Senate Bill 5 on third reading and final passage," Weisman said on the floor.
Senate Bill 18: The clerk read SB18 (legal protections for the dignity of a minor and suppression of a court record associated with changing a minor's name). Senator Wallace moved for final passage; the Senate recorded 20 ayes, 11 noes, 0 absent, 3 excused and 1 vacant and SB18 was passed.
Senate Bill 31: The clerk read SB31 (lawful use of a prescription drug product containing a Schedule I controlled substance). Senator Rich moved for third and final reading and final passage; the bill passed with a recorded tally of 29 ayes, 2 noes, 0 absent, 3 excused and 1 vacant.
Senate Bill 52: The Senate concurred with House amendments to SB52 (coal transition communities; hiring preference and just-transition investment rules) and repassed the bill after discussion; the repassage recorded 29 ayes and 2 noes.
Confirmations: The clerk read a slate of governor appointments to boards and commissions (e.g., Great Outdoors Colorado Trust Fund board, Colorado Agriculture Development Authority and wildlife habitat stamp committee). The Majority Leader moved to pass the appointments on the consent calendar, and they were confirmed by the Senate.
Next steps: The Senate laid over the remainder of the calendar to Feb. 25, and recessed until 11:00 a.m.
