The Des Moines Zoning Board of Adjustment voted unanimously Feb. 25 to approve three consent items listed on the meeting agenda. The board approved a city request for outdoor water‑trail improvements near Berglund Marina (vicinity of 2000 Sailor Road), a conditional use allowing a seasonal market at Genesis Health Club (1111 E. Army Post Road) for up to one day per week, and a request to expand an existing bar operation at 604 Locust Street (suites 105 and 106).
Chair Mel Pins said staff had recommended approval for the items on the consent agenda and noted no members of the public had objected during the meeting. “Items 1, 2, and 6 have been approved,” Pins said after the board voted.
Staff reports explained that the Berglund Marina work was not in a flood district, that the seasonal market request is limited to a single day per week at the Southridge Center location, and that the 604 Locust expansion had previously been granted conditional use approval in May 2025 and met current staff requirements to move forward. Board members moved item 6 to the consent agenda before the vote after staff indicated the applicant had satisfied site requirements.
All three motions passed on voice/hand votes with a 7‑0 tally. Staff told successful applicants to expect a written decision and to coordinate with the city’s Permit and Development Center about building or sign permits as needed.
