Committee accepts technical correction to regenerative‑medicine bill (HB1275)

Chairman Newton returned House Bill 1275 (LC461482S) to the committee to correct language that could be read as excluding material sourced from outside Georgia. Newton said the bill's intent is to regulate regenerative‑medicine practices conducted in Georgia while allowing material derived from other states or countries to be used within the bill’s structure, and to require registration with the FDA or other accrediting organizations where applicable. "We really meant that we were regulating the ones in Georgia, but we did inadvertently sound like we might be excluding other states," Newton said, noting the text was amended to fix that reading.

Representative Gisler said she had voted against a prior version for that reason and thanked the chair for fixing the language. Members discussed the correction, indicated they could add amendments if needed, and the committee proceeded with a voice vote that recorded 'ayes.'

The committee accepted the corrected language and moved the item forward.
