The Chilton County Commission voted to authorize Commissioner Bowen to negotiate terms with the City of Clanton for a 3-acre portion of the Sims property at a proposed price of $180,000.
County Attorney explained the motion to the commission and said negotiated terms would be returned to the county for final approval and that the sale would also be subject to approval by the Clanton City Council. The attorney prefaced the discussion by reminding commissioners that material contract terms should be disclosed publicly before execution and that persons with a personal interest should not participate in executive session deliberations.
The motion to authorize Commissioner Bowen to negotiate the purchase-and-sale agreement, including the stated price of $180,000 and other terms to be determined between the parties, was moved and seconded and passed unanimously.
What’s next: The commission directed that any negotiated contract be returned to the commission for final approval and noted the City of Clanton must also approve the sale during its council process.
