City Manager Alex Nguyen on March 4 presented a recorded briefing asking Oxnard residents to complete a short survey to help inform the City Council’s update of its five‑year priorities.
Nguyen said the outreach aims to "keep Oxnard safe and self reliant" and to gather community input on spending priorities such as public safety, emergency response times and maintenance of parks and roads. "Not having FEMA come in, right afterwards is actually going to be unfortunately a disaster on top of a disaster," Nguyen said, citing recent reporting as an example of how federal or state cuts can affect local disaster recovery.
The presentation emphasized services funded by local tax revenue, including road and alley repairs, park improvements, illegal‑dumping removal, tree pruning and programs for youth and seniors. Nguyen told viewers the city is using multiple communications channels to collect survey responses and will compile the results to present to the City Council before it finalizes its spring review of the city's five‑year priorities.
Nguyen explained how to access the survey: it is available on the city's website and via a QR code shown in the presentation. He instructed households on submission limits during the recorded briefing, stating the survey is limited so the City can compile representative results. The presentation has been shown around town for several months and will continue for another one to two months, Nguyen said.
The briefing framed the outreach as preparation for future budget and policy choices, noting that projected reductions in state and federal funding could require the council to make difficult tradeoffs in coming years. Nguyen closed by thanking viewers and reminding them of the INCO meeting on March 4, where staff will continue to brief council members and compile community feedback for policy consideration.
