In its regular meeting, the St Clair County Schools administration presented the elementary principals' report with student recognitions, fundraising totals and curriculum updates. Administrators listed the Cyclone Spotlight honorees and announced that Saint Claire Elementary students raised $6,975.64 for the American Cancer Society; Mrs. McCone's fifth-grade class contributed $1,162.10 as the top fundraiser.
The administrator explained changes to upcoming math standards, saying the standards have been regrouped (from five strands to four) with a greater emphasis on problem solving rather than memorized algorithms: "The biggest thing is going to be there's a lot more focus on problem solving and not just basic skill," the administrator said. The report noted principals attended a three-day institute for professional development.
Administrators also reported donations received for school programs, including $50 from the Eagle Lake American Legion Auxiliary (split $25 to after-prom and $25 to after-grad), $997 from the Minnesota State High School League Foundation for the Bison Memorial Fund, and $3,500 from the High School League Foundation for athletic leadership activities.
Separately, the chair read the first hearing of two policies as listed in the transcript: 'Policy 506' (described in the meeting as 'human discipline') and 'Policy 524' (described as 'Internet/computer usage'). Both were announced as first readings; no formal votes occurred on either policy during the meeting.
