Mona utilities staff report broken water line, sewer-plant repairs and a $24,000 pump quote

City utilities staff updated the Mona City Council on Feb. 10 about a broken water line and ongoing sewer-plant recovery work.

A staff member reported that a contractor had apparently bored through the side of a meter can, which will be expensive to repair. The utilities crew said they had invoiced the responsible contractor for plumbing supplies and overtime hours and were tracking costs.

On the sewer side, staff described layered recovery work after what they characterized as significant operational impacts: drum screens clogged by rags, cannibalized pumps to restore redundancy, and ongoing cleaning to return tanks to service. One staff member reported the plant treated about 186,000 gallons the previous day while intake was around 250,000 gallons.

Staff said one flight pump needs replacement and that a quote for a new flight pump was in the mid- $20,000 range. In council remarks, a figure of roughly $24,000 was discussed for that pump.

Staff outlined a tentative timeline: continue cleaning and repairs over the next one to two weeks, obtain parts and quotes for pump replacement, and coordinate disinfection steps once the tanks are ready. They also said the city had been in contact with contractor management about the meter damage and would follow up on cost recovery.

Council members and staff agreed to assist operations when needed and to revisit the timeline at the next check-in.
