Lancaster County commissioners on Feb. 24 approved multiple transportation items aimed at intersection improvements and roundabout additions.
Lancaster County Engineer Pam Dingman told the board that the county is working with the Nebraska Department of Transportation and the City of Lincoln and local developers to add roundabouts at intersections including 38th, 47th and 65th Streets and Saltillo Road. The board approved program agreements to bring those improvements into a federalized contract; for one project the county's estimated share is $771,000.
The board also approved an engineering design and NEPA services contract with Felsburg, Holt & Ullevig for a federal‑aid project on Sotelo Road between South 27th Street and South 68th Street, with an estimated cost of $764,550. Dingman said plans will be revised into two phases to accommodate added roundabout work, a change that will require plan revisions and additional coordination.
Both the program agreements with NDOT and the engineering contract passed on voice roll calls without recorded opposition. The board directed staff to proceed with project phasing, coordination with the city and developers, and public notifications as needed.
Next steps include finalizing federal contracting documents, completing NEPA and design milestones, and returning to the board with updates and any required funding authorizations.
