Committee clears technical fix to align IEP transition plans with high school planning platform

The House Education Committee reported second substitute Senate Bill 5,969 out of committee with a due-pass-as-amended recommendation after adopting a technical amendment (MOET545) that preserves a requirement that high-school-and-beyond plans be revised as students’ interests, goals or needs change.

Staff (Ethan) told the committee the bill requires the statewide online individualized education program (IEP) system to integrate a student’s transition plan with the universal high-school-and-beyond plan platform to reduce duplicative work for students, families and educators. Representative Stonier moved the technical amendment, describing it as a code-advisor correction, and the amendment was adopted by voice vote. Representative Stonier argued the bill reduces duplication and helps prevent loss of progress for students during transitions.

The clerk announced a tally of 18 ayes and 1 excused. The bill was reported out of committee with a due pass as amended recommendation. Next steps include any additional committee action or floor consideration.
