The Friends of the Corona Public Library reported steady fundraising and volunteer support at the board meeting.
Friends president Gretchen Doughty said the Friends' bookshop generates approximately $100,000 each year. She added that volunteers and interns had contributed about 5,848 hours from July through January and that recent silent auctions yielded $2,300. "Our bookshop makes profits of approximately a $100,000 each year," Doughty said.
Doughty outlined upcoming events intended to raise funds and engage the community: a sold-out "Ladders and Lasagna" dinner, an author brunch on April 26 featuring Heather Morris along with authors Steven Kieran, Bonnie Baloch and Gabrielle Saab, and a purse sale called Pursesipalooza on May 2. She said the Friends will distribute about 800 books to third-graders at Santana Park in an outreach effort tied to the Corona road race.
Trustees thanked the Friends for their work and encouraged community participation at the events. The board noted that tickets for the author brunch go on sale March 3 and that the Friends use proceeds for library programming and special projects.
The Friends' report did not include a detailed line-item budget in the meeting; trustees expressed appreciation for volunteer contributions and the events calendar.
