Senate committee recommends confirmation for four gubernatorial appointees

The State Government, Tribal Affairs & Elections Committee on Feb. 24 recommended confirmation for four gubernatorial appointees.

Madam Vice Chair moved to report Megan Matthews (gubernatorial appointment No. 9066) with a recommendation for confirmation. Senator Bob Hasegawa said he had concerns but praised Matthews’s focus on data collection and urged disaggregation of data for Asian communities; he said he would vote yes while continuing to watch the agency’s work. Senator Rachele and Senator Fortunato also endorsed Matthews, citing her outreach across the state and engagement with women- and minority-owned contractors. The motion passed by voice vote and the chair ruled the appointment received a confirmation recommendation subject to signatures.

The committee then moved and recommended confirmation for Rudy Mukhopadhy (No. 9246), Kiana Daniels (No. 9268), and Gauri Shrattria (No. 9267). Each motion was moved and seconded, there was no substantive discussion recorded, and each appointment received a confirmation recommendation by voice vote.

The committee took the actions during an executive session after a brief caucus; all recommendations were announced as reported with the qualification 'subject to signatures.'
