Kingsford Heights' town council on Feb. 23 approved a small purchase for the community center and authorized staff to pursue preliminary planning to upgrade the town’s security and surveillance systems.
A park-board representative requested authorization to buy a fully stocked first-aid kit for the community center; a council member moved and the board approved the purchase unanimously. The speaker described different kit options and the stated cost in the transcript as "$2.55"; the board accepted a motion to buy the kit immediately from the community center operating fund.
Council members also raised concerns the town’s current security arrangement with a vendor identified as Cardinal may not meet present cybersecurity and physical-security needs. The presiding officer asked staff to locate the executed Cardinal contract to review termination provisions and any early-termination penalties. Members noted the contract appears to be paid through Dec. 31 and discussed whether they should let the existing contract run its course or consider nonrenewal and new procurement.
A motion to proceed with preliminary brainstorming and prework to evaluate upgraded systems was moved and seconded and carried on a voice vote; the council instructed staff to include cost and contract-termination information in a future agenda item.
The council said it will put a security review on the March 5 agenda and asked staff to report back on contract terms and options for upgraded systems.
