The Morgan County Board of Zoning Appeals approved a development-standard variance Feb. 23 that allows Paul and Cynthia Farrer to increase the maximum living area for an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) by 393 square feet at 1135 Pumpkin Vine Hill Road in Jefferson Township.
Cynthia and Paul's son, Michael, told the board the family intends to place a manufactured home where an existing barn sits so the couple can be nearer to family and accommodate future mobility and health needs. "We just like to get a little bit more square footage," Michael said.
Staff and the Morgan County Health Department reviewed the application and reported no objections; staff recommended approval after finding the additional area would not injure public health, safety or property values. Board members characterized the request as similar to recent approvals and voted to grant the variance.
The applicant may proceed with permitting and must meet regular permitting and utility reviews through appropriate agencies.
