The Washington State Senate on Feb. 20 adopted two resolutions recognizing civic engagement and a regional community festival.
Senate Resolution 8,694, which celebrates civil, open‑minded discussion and commends students involved in the Building Bridges Project at Marysville Getchell High School for promoting media literacy and respectful debate, was read on the floor and adopted by voice vote. Senator Levick, the sponsor listed in the transcript, thanked the students and cited a recent poll noting "93% of Americans are concerned with the incivility in our nation," saying the students "are showing us that peace, patience, and kindness is how we should lead." Senator Wagner rose in support and linked the resolution to broader civility efforts promoted by the lieutenant governor.
The Senate also read and adopted Senate Resolution 8,691 honoring the 2026 Apple Blossom Festival Royal Court. The resolution names Queen Brielle Pratt and Princesses Kaylee Pearson and Parker Avery, summarizes their school and community activities, and directs copies to be transmitted to the honorees and festival organizers. Senator Goner spoke in support of the resolution and encouraged attendance at the festival. The President asked the royal court and guests in the gallery to stand and be recognized by the Senate.
Both resolutions were adopted by voice vote as recorded in the floor transcript. The Senate adjourned until 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24, the 44th legislative day.
