The Nye County Board of Commissioners accepted an $81,900 grant from the Nevada Off‑Highway Vehicle Commission and authorized a $9,000 county match to fund professional design of an off‑highway vehicle park at the Pahrump fairgrounds.
Grants staff said the award covers design work for track layouts, sound and dust mitigation, drainage, irrigation and safety elements. "This grant will allow a professional to design the sound barriers, the logistics on water covering dust, designing those tracks," grants administrator Jessica McCutchen said.
Members of the Pahrump OHV committee and volunteers described early planning work they have done to address neighborhood concerns. Committee chair Jimmy Lewis noted sound studies and proposed 20‑foot south/west sound walls and said the design phase is specifically intended to identify methods to minimize dust and noise before construction begins.
Commissioners emphasized the need for community outreach and phased public meetings; the board authorized execution of the grant award and directed staff to proceed with design procurement and community notification.
