The Dunn County Board voted to suspend the rules and take up a highway committee ordinance amending Chapter 12 to codify seasonal weight restrictions (road bans) and make the county’s approach publicly visible, the chair said.
Supervisor Thomas moved to suspend the rules so the board could adopt the ordinance without waiting for a second reading; the suspension (a two‑thirds vote) passed, and the ordinance was adopted by voice vote. Supporters said the expedited timeline will allow the county to impose road bans earlier this spring when melt and traffic risk pavement damage.
Supervisors asked about exemptions for emergency vehicles and implements of husbandry (farm equipment), and staff confirmed an exemption process and permit options for loads that need to traverse county roads. County staff also noted an existing development agreement with a private project that imposes seasonal weight restrictions on that contractor’s work. Board members flagged that heavy equipment for large projects—such as solar installations preparing sites—may be subject to the seasonal restrictions and to permit conditions in development agreements.
The board also approved a separate resolution requesting long‑term sustainability for highway funding. No litigation or appeals were discussed.
