Katie Rapp of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation presented the city with a Redevelopment Ready Community designation at the Feb. 23 Coldwater City Council meeting.
"I'm excited to formally get the opportunity to present your award for becoming a certified redevelopment ready community through the MEDC," Rapp said, noting that Coldwater began work with the MEDC in 2018 and is the 83rd community in the state to earn the designation and the first in Branch County.
Rapp said the designation recognizes communities that have adopted development best practices to be ready for investment and that Coldwater also holds related recognitions as a Michigan Main Street and a certified local government. She invited council and staff to take a photo for an MEDC press release and offered to answer follow-up questions.
The presentation closed with brief remarks from council and staff and a photo opportunity. Rapp identified Nate Scramlin as the MEDC redevelopment services team director who has been working with city staff on implementation.
