The Business Finance & Budget Committee moved to affirm planned 2024 vehicle replacements and to approve an intergovernmental agreement granting Palatine access to the Illinois Office of the Comptroller’s Local Debt Recovery Program.
Staff told the committee they had located eight of nine planned replacement vehicles and asked the council to affirm those purchases; the process will include a $790,000 budget adjustment in 2023 with a corresponding reduction in 2024. The committee recorded its affirmation and placed the item on the consent agenda.
On the intergovernmental agreement, staff described the comptroller program as an additional collection channel for unpaid local debts such as traffic tickets and ordinance violations. Staff explained the state program collects a fee from the debtor and does not take a cut of the village’s portion. Staff also noted that the village can continue to use private collection agencies and, where applicable, pursue liens according to statutory criteria.
Both items were recommended to the consent calendar and later approved as part of the council’s consent agenda.
