Commission approves $15,000 purchase of 301 East 8th Street

Geary County commissioners voted to approve purchasing a commercial parcel at 301 East 8th Street from J and J Locksmith Auto Group Inc. for $15,000, with $500 in earnest money due within five days. Public works administrator Derby Myers presented the contract and asked the board to authorize executing the agreement and issuing a special check through finance for the earnest money.

A commissioner moved to proceed with the purchase and another seconded the motion; the board voted in favor. The contract lists Homefront Real Estate acting as broker. The earnest money payment will be handled by the finance office as part of closing preparations.

Derby Myers said the broker and seller had agreed to the negotiated price and recommended the county move forward. The commission did not discuss detailed plans for the site during the meeting; commissioners directed staff to proceed with standard closing steps.

The board also approved a separate $350 sponsorship for the Crime Stoppers banquet earlier in the meeting. The meeting continued with routine departmental reports before the board voted to hold a brief executive session on legal contracts.
