Official: Nor'easter drops up to 1.5 feet of wet snow; residents urged to stay off roads

An unidentified official said a nor'easter dumped "a foot, foot and a half" of heavy, wet snow on the area and urged residents to stay home until crews can clear major routes.

The official, identified only in the transcript as "Unidentified Speaker," said crews have "had a chance to catch up on our major roads" but warned, "We can only do that if you stay off the roads." Schools were announced closed, and the speaker noted a Yukon basketball game in which the "president of Yukon held up a big sign saying no classes on Monday," underscoring local cancellations.

Officials described the storm as heavy, wet snow that "starts freezing on the limbs, then the limbs come down, take out power," raising the risk of outages. The speaker added that "both of our power lines are above ground because we're sort of a semi rural state," and said crews are paying special attention to those lines.

The speaker said response priorities include hospitals and nursing homes, calling them "places where folks are most vulnerable." The statement closed with an appeal for patience and safety: "You know, people start getting impatient, want to get back out on the roads, stay back, let our guys do the job."
