Sergeant King of the Honolulu Police Department reported December 2025 incident statistics for the Nu'uanu–Kamehameha Heights area, saying, “Aggravated assaults, we had 0 cases reported compared to 1 in November.” He listed other changes: four auto-thefts in December (unchanged from November), an increase in burglaries to eight from one, and 13 theft reports in December, up from six in November. Total calls for service in December were 1,227.
Lieutenant Yamashiro added detail on fireworks enforcement: “For fireworks in your guys' area, we had a total of 23 calls for service,” and said islandwide there were 29 citations and two fireworks-related arrests. He told the board that New Year’s Eve staffing was maximized but normal patrol caseload and higher-priority incidents limited the department’s ability to escalate every fireworks call to a citation or arrest that night.
Board members asked for neighborhood-specific counts for the week of Christmas and raised concerns about access to HPD’s online crime-mapping tool. Lieutenant Yamashiro reported a quick lookup for that week showed 54 nuisance calls in a focused area and agreed to follow up with the board. He also said the crime-mapping program is still operable but can have intermittent glitches; HPD staff agreed to coordinate with its IT division and email access guidance to the chair and the neighborhood assistant.
The board thanked officers for their work and asked HPD to return with requested neighborhood-level call data at a later meeting. No formal action was taken.
