Members heard two community-focused presentations at the Jan. 27 meeting.
Sage Murakami, representing the Oahu Resilience Hub Learning Community (HLC), described resilience hubs as trusted local gathering sites and networks that support everyday community resilience and activate during disasters. Murakami outlined HLC’s community-of-practice model, partnerships (including the CCSR and local foundations), monthly working groups that include neighborhood-board liaisons, student leaders and planned training opportunities. Murakami said an Oahu Resilience Hub summit is planned for the first weekend in June 2026 and invited board members to join the HLC steering committee and monthly meetings.
Board member Eduardo Hernandez, speaking in his Hawaii Bicycling League role, gave a walk/bike/drive presentation emphasizing that bicycles are vehicles under state law, the three-foot passing requirement for motorists, proper signaling and visibility, and infrastructure types such as buffered bike lanes, delineators and bike boxes. Hernandez urged drivers to "check before opening your door" and noted materials and education resources are available at hbl.org.
Both presentations included Q&A. Board members thanked presenters and discussed how neighborhood boards and residents can engage with HLC and HBL activities and training opportunities.

Presenters left QR codes, resource links and invitations to monthly meetings; the board noted HLC summit planning and HBL education resources as items members can circulate to constituents.
