Pickens County board approves three-bus purchase, names construction manager for junior-high project

The Pickens County School District board voted Feb. 12 to buy three school buses and to hire a construction manager for a junior-high additions and modifications project. Superintendent Doctor Thomas told the board the recommended bus purchase is for one 72-passenger Type C bus and two 48-passenger Type C lift buses from Yancey Bus Sales and Service for $515,741. The motion to approve the bus purchase was moved and seconded and carried by the board.

During the meeting the board also approved Carol Daniel Construction as construction manager for RFP 25-006, the Pickens Junior High additions and modifications project. The presiding member called for and recorded a motion and second to approve Carol Daniel Construction, and the motion carried.

The board adopted the consent agenda, which included financial reports, the surplus of five buses, an MOU with Thomas University, approval of out-of-state overnight field trips, and minutes from the Jan. regular meeting and the Feb. 6 work session.
